Pilates for Runners

There are so many reasons Pilates is great for runners.

It improves:

  • Posture

  • Balance

  • Core strength

It works the deep inner stabilising muscles as-well as the outer larger mobilising muscles that move the joints.

So many of us lace up, step out the door, and hit the road, focusing on mileage. Often, as our running body fatigues, our running form suffers. Many times we collapse

in on ourselves, with the upper body slumping—hoping that our legs will just carry us to the finish line.

Our body is a complete system. Once one part is compromised, the rest follows suit. If we lose our posture,

we lose our form and balance. Our core and legs won’t function to their full potential because of added strains.

Pilates is the antithesis to running. It’s low impact, so you’re providing rest and recovery for your body, whilst strengthening your core and improving your bodies ability to resist posture failure.  It also moves and challenges your muscles in completely different ways.
